Biography

Samuel Walther, geboren 1995 in Stuttgart, studierte von 2014-2020 Komposition bei Dieter Mack an der Musikhochschule Lübeck. 2017 studierte er an der Estnischen Akademie für Musik und Theater bei Helena Tulve. Als Chordirigent hospitierte er 2018 unter Tõnu Kaljuste beim NDR Chor Hamburg. Zudem erhielt er Unterricht von Michael Finnissy, Anette Schlünz, Joël Bons, Samuel Adler, Oliver Schneller, Chris Cree Brown und vielen anderen Komponist*innen.

Seine Stücke wurden unter anderem beim Hörfest Neue Musik in Detmold 2015, Impuls Festival in Dessau 2016, der Saabrücker Komponistenwerkstatt 2017, der Shanghai New Music Week 2018 und der Saarbrücker Sommermusik 2019 aufgeführt.

2015 schuf er im Auftrag der Stiftung Froehlich in Stuttgart eine großformatige Klanginstallation, welche 2016 den Preis als beste Komposition des Jahres der Musikhochschule Lübeck erhielt. Er gewann den Théodore-Gouvy-Preis 2017 und war im selben Jahr Resident im Beethoven-Haus Bonn. 2019 wurde sein Konzept "Wir sind Staub" beim Possehl Preis prämiert. Gefördert von der Kulturförderung Stuttgart präsentierte er 2020 seine Soloausstellung "Intentionally Left Blank _ for play".

Samuel Walther war Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.

Samuel Walther, born in Suttgart 1995, studied composition with Dieter Mack from 2014-2020 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, spending one semester 2017 in Tallinn with Helena Tulve at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

His pieces were performed at festivals like the “Hörfest Neue Musik” in Detmold 2015, the “Impuls Festival” in Dessau 2016 or the "New Music Week" in Shanghai 2018. In 2015 he created a large scale sound installation for the “Stiftung Froehlich” in Stuttgart, receiving an award for the best composition of the year in 2016 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. Furthermore he won the Théodore-Gouvy-Prize 2017 and was artist in residence at the Beethoven-House Bonn in the same year. His concept "Wir sind Staub" was awarded at the Possehl Competiton 2019.

Funded by the Kulturförderung Stuttgart his solo-exhibition "Intentionally Left Blank _ for play" was held in Stuttgart in 2020.
